KELLOGG'S SUPPORTS CANADA'S NEW FOOD GUIDE |
|
"BALANCING VARIETY OF FOODS WITH QUANTITY AND QUALITY"
|
TORONTO, ON, February 5, 2007 Kellogg Canada proudly supports today's launch of Canada's New Food Guide and particularly its key goal of helping Canadians choose the type of foods that will help them achieve a healthy diet, such as nutrient-rich whole grain cereals.
"Kellogg Canada has been a longtime advocate of educating Canadians and providing them with healthy choices that taste great and meet their various needs," said Christine Lowry, Vice President of Nutrition and Corporate Affairs, Kellogg Canada. "We believe Canada's New Food Guide is an effective educational tool to help Canadians make healthy, long-lasting lifestyle decisions."
Kellogg's Commitment to Nutrition Education:
Kellogg Canada is proud of MISSION NUTRITION*, a joint initiative between Kellogg's and Dietitians of Canada, which promotes healthy eating and physical activity in children aged 5 to 14. This educational program was developed for teachers and parents by Canadian dietitians, with input from leading health experts.
"Dietitians of Canada is pleased to partner with Kellogg's in the development of Mission Nutrition," said Lynda Corby, Director of Public Affairs, Dietitians of Canada. "It provides one way to bring the messages of the New Food Guide to Canadian children."
MISSION NUTRITION will incorporate Canada's New Food Guide into its curriculum as it continues educating school-aged children about making informed choices on how to eat a nutritious and balanced diet.
Canada's New Food Guide reaffirms the importance of including fibre-containing whole grains in a healthy diet. Among other things, eating a fibre-rich diet assists with weight management, helps promote a healthy digestive system, lowers blood cholesterol levels, a risk factor of heart disease, and reduces the risk of some types of cancer.
Canada's New Food Guide recommends making "half your grains whole grains", and Kellogg's cereal products that are made with whole wheat include all components of the whole grain: the germ, the bran and the endosperm.
Here are some Kellogg's fibre-containing whole grain cereals:
- Kellogg's All-Bran Bran Flakes and Kellogg's All-Bran Strawberry Bites
- Kellogg's Mini-Wheats
- Kellogg's Müslix
- Kellogg's Two Scoops Raisin Bran
