Paper Recycling Initiatives
- Kellogg's* has used recycled paper in our cartons since 1906.
- Presently use 100% recycled paper fibres in the manufacture of our cereal, frozen Eggo Waffles and pancakes and convenience food boxes.
- Display government approved and endorsed recycling logo on all packages.
- All Kellogg cartons are recyclable in community recycling programs accepting boxboard.
- Cartons and cases can be recycled in industrial and community recycling programs.
- Recycled content of cases averages 60% and our suppliers are working to increase these levels.
Plastic Recycling Initiatives
- Our plastic suppliers for our food liners have pre-consumer liner recycling programs in place so that any liner waster accumulated before coming into contact with food is recycled into new useable plastic, decreasing the use of raw materials.
- Wax paper liners are biodegradable.
- Wax paper liners and plastic wrap on individual packs are recyclable.
- Recycled wax paper liners and plastic wrap are combined with other plastic products to make rigid plastic products, such as plastic lumber.
- Although most community recycling programs are not yet able to accept plastic packaging materials other than plastic bottles, we are optimistic that an increasing number will soon be able to accept these materials.
Research and Partnerships
- Kellogg Canada is working with the Ministry of the Environment to help implement more effective recycling programs.
- Involvement includes financial support to help fund the building of centres necessary to collect and accumulate more recycling materials.
- Also includes research into a selection of packaging materials that will better fit within the various recycling programs.
- In the future, Kellogg Canada will be using non-mercury batteries in our promotions, demonstrating our commitment to reducing mercury-containing products that may be harmful to the environment.
